Driving Regina

The sound of screeching breaks, crumpling metal and broken glass didn’t wake anybody at that late hour of the night. People tend to respect each other’s anonymity in big towns, especially when intrusions in somebody else’s personal space and drama come at the cost of a good night’s sleep. Only one person’s thoughts and reveries were rudely interrupted by the unexpected obstacle. Suddenly, she had to return to the dreary reality of the night as her seatbelt violently cut off her air supply for a second, helping her resist inertia while her car became one with the other vehicle.

Damn it, it’s all his fault… But the person Regina had in mind in her state of shock was not the driver of that other car. Now I won’t get to see him again, not this night… Or will I? An idea occurred to the woman as her trembling fingers were fishing for her work phone in the bag on the passenger seat. Involved in an accident on my way to your place. Need you. Pls. This should get him to come over and see her...

“You ok, Miss? Hey lady, is everything ok in there? Say something!”

That worried stranger with his quivering voice, knocking at her window like a maniac… that's the driver of the other car, he’s out and looking unharmed, worrying about her state… and she suddenly perceives the magnitude of the situation… the red light she ran… that heap of metal that used to be a car before she drove right into it... A few deep breaths and Regina collects herself, promptly assessing the situation, in spite of the panic making her heart race wildly and her limbs tremble uncontrollably.

It doesn’t look like there was anybody else in that car, just the driver… and he seems fine, just terrified, the same way she feels right now. But he’s a man… I can work with that. I can get out of this and keep my driver’s license. And the insurance will pay for that piece of junk of his… Regina’s big, innocent eyes fill with tears and the shawl on her shoulders opens up, revealing her beautiful cleavage while she finally decides to emerge from the shelter of her somewhat damaged vehicle.

The man sighs with almost palpable relief seeing her coming out of the car, pale and shaking, tears running down her cheeks, but appearing to be fine in spite of the shock. Yes, that cute dumb thing drove right into him, completely oblivious of the traffic lights and anybody else who may have been on the road, confirming the nastiest of comments regarding female drivers, comments he used to disagree with. But that doesn’t mean he wanted her dead or injured.

She’s fine, thank god for that, she’s in shock, but she’s fine. And as his fear is starting to subside, the image of the gorgeous damsel in distress in front of him starts to sink into his male brain before anger can take over his senses. She’s in
